Let’s talk about the saltwater nose rush. 

It can happen hours after you’ve been thrashed in the surf and without warning. You might be at an important client dinner or kissing your bae when suddenly, a rush of saltwater gushes from your nostrils and douses anyone in range. 

It’s a little embarrassing but it’s something Nick Bannehr has had to get used to. As a kid, Nick camped, surfed and swam his way up and down the East Coast of Australia. It fostered a deep love of the elements and taught him the importance of getting as close to the energy source as possible – because that’s where the magic happens.

Eyeballing a five-metre great white, invading the pitch of a medieval football match or documenting the scorched aftermath of the Australian bushfires. 

Nick finds the energy and adjusts for the light. Whilst living in London he applied this skill to capture a nation’s grief after the death of the monarch. That series and Nick’s other work have been awarded across Australia and earned him invitations to exhibit both here and internationally. 

Nick is based in Sydney with his partner Lauren and baby Sid. When he’s not shooting for clients like Unyoked, Procreate & Monocle he enjoys escaping on road trips, staring into campfires (the bush telly) and having saltwater stuffed up his nose.
